As someone who works from home now, I do agree with the sentiment behind this report on why working from home can never kill the office building. Collaborating with people in person is always going to be preferable to only ever meeting virtually, but this role gives me the flexibility to work from anywhere – be it a local cafe, the client’s office or even their home.
It’s important to consider how your employees and contractors collaborate and how it affects their productivity. Even one day in the office to touch base could be more productive than none at all. Will this give rise to more shared office spaces, more ‘hot desking’? Or a more creative approach to the idea of an ‘office’ in the first place? Time will tell, but it is clear to see that virtual working is becoming more normal and more accepted, thus changing the traditional office environment and our way of working already.
